A second approach

Can I choose Gua Sha instead of cupping?

Yes. Scraping (Gua Sha) is available as a massage enhancement for $10.50; Scalp Gua-sha Therapy is $15.50. Cupping is $15.50 as an add-on. These enhancements fit within the booked massage time.

Gua Sha uses strokes with a smooth tool, while cupping uses suction. Tell your therapist about sensitive skin and whether temporary marks would interfere with an upcoming event. Choose the technique and pressure together before starting.

Your session

What happens during a cupping session?

Your therapist places suction cups on selected areas of your back and shoulders after discussing your preferences and skin condition. Cupping creates a pulling sensation at the skin, which feels different from the pressing and gliding movements of massage.

The standalone appointment is a focused 25-minute service. It is not a full-body massage. Tell your therapist immediately if the suction feels painful, sharp or too strong so the application can be changed or stopped.

Know what you are booking

Look for Circulation Boost under Cupping Therapy in Square. The catalog name does not establish a medical circulation benefit. If you are looking for a specific technique such as fire cupping or wet cupping, ask us first; do not infer that technique from the page title or photograph.

Is it a fit?

How do I choose the best cupping appointment for me?

Choose by the practitioner's experience with your needs, the explanation of the technique and your comfort with the likely marks. A strong suction setting is not a measure of quality. You should be able to discuss the plan before agreeing to treatment.

If you want steady hands-on pressure, compare deep tissue massage. If assisted movement is your priority, read about Thai Combination Massage. Neither requires adding cupping.

  • Ask how the cups and suction will be used for your appointment.
  • Discuss skin sensitivity, medication and previous reactions.
  • Mention photos, travel or events where visible marks could matter.
  • Confirm the price and whether you booked a standalone service or an add-on.

Price & options

What does cupping cost, and can I add it to massage?

The standalone 25-minute appointment is $70 at the listed card rate. Cupping also appears on the massage add-on menu; an add-on needs an eligible main appointment and is a separate selection.

Ask whether an enhancement changes the price, the appointment time or the balance of techniques. Do not reserve the standalone appointment expecting a full massage to be included. The booking menu shows available options before checkout.

Marks & comfort

Will cupping leave marks?

Cupping can leave circular marks. Their appearance and how long they remain vary, so we cannot promise they will be gone before a particular event. Tell a healthcare provider who sees them that you had cupping.

NCCIH notes that research on benefits is limited and that adverse effects can include lasting discoloration, scars, burns or infection. Cupping may worsen eczema or psoriasis. Darker marks are not proof that toxins were removed or that a treatment worked better.

When to check with a clinician first

Discuss a skin condition, blood-thinning medication, bleeding tendency or recent surgery before booking. Seek medical advice for unexplained swelling, a new injury or worsening symptoms rather than using cupping to diagnose or treat them.

Preparation

What should I do before my first cupping visit?

Share the information that affects the skin and areas being treated. This helps the therapist decide whether to proceed, adapt the session or suggest another option.

  1. Complete the Square health form before arriving.
  2. List relevant medications, skin conditions and recent procedures.
  3. Discuss your preferred areas, suction comfort and concerns about marks.
  4. Ask for aftercare instructions before leaving; contact a clinician for unexpected blistering, spreading redness or severe pain.

Before You Book

Cupping in Staunton, VA: questions we get asked

Is the 25-minute cupping appointment a full massage?

No. It is a focused cupping appointment on selected areas. Book a separate massage or ask about an eligible cupping add-on if you want both.

What does cupping feel like?

It creates a pulling or tightening sensation at the skin. Tell the therapist if suction feels painful or uncomfortable so it can be changed or stopped.

Do darker cupping marks mean better results?

No. The appearance of marks is not evidence of toxin removal or better results. It varies with the skin and application.

Can I have cupping before a wedding or beach trip?

Discuss the timing before booking. Circular marks can remain visible and their duration cannot be guaranteed.

Is cupping suitable for eczema or psoriasis?

Cupping can worsen these skin conditions. Discuss your skin with a clinician and tell the studio before arranging treatment.

How much is the standalone cupping session?

The current 25-minute Circulation Boost session is $70 at the card rate. Add-on options are listed separately.
